New to our range

"I'm just a normal T-shirt. Solid middle class."

Own-brand products are new additions to the Galaxus range. Is it worth giving our T-shirts a chance despite the large selection already available? Maybe you'll be smarter after this interview.

Testing products, writing news, writing a guide - there are a few things I really like about my job. Introducing a new own-brand product is not necessarily one of them. So instead of finding unctuous words about it, I let the product speak for itself.

Hello article number 47313673! Thank you for taking the time for an interview.

47313673: No problem, I'm just lying around the warehouse and bored anyway.

I thought you'd be on your way home to someone by now ...

Hardly. Nobody knows me yet. And have you looked around? There are thousands of white shirts at Galaxus. Hardly anyone was waiting for me there.

Now you're making yourself look smaller than you are ...

I'm available in all sizes: S, M, L, XL, even XXL.

That's not what I meant. I was told by the people who developed you that you are something special.

That's pretty rubbish, to be honest. I'm just a normal white T-shirt. Solid middle class, unremarkable.

You also look kind of, well, rumpled ...

I've only just come out of the box. It's damn tight in a box like that.

Cardboard? Not plastic? Surely that's good for the environment, right?Yes, as long as the people who created me used FSC-certified cardboard. Which is probably the case. But then only if the packaging ends up in the cardboard collection.

By the way, despite the wrinkles, I think you already feel pretty good.

Thanks, that's probably down to the single jersey fabric and the cotton I'm made from. I've worked my way up to a fabric weight of 170 grams per square metre. That feels good on the body for most people and ensures that I keep my shape even after many washes.

Let's talk briefly about your life. Where are you from?

I already know what you're referring to. Yes, conditions in the clothing industry are often still terrible: there are factories that exploit their employees and other bad things. But my colleagues and I can't complain. The seamstresses who produced me work in a fair factory in India. There were also signs with the "SA8000" and "Fair Wear" certification on the wall. And I kept seeing people checking the working conditions. So I can say: I've always had it good.

And you're made of organic cotton, aren't you?

(smiles sarcastically) Yeah, wow, great, isn't it? Seriously: 'Organic cotton, coloured according to the Oeko-Tex standard' sounds good. But that's the least you should expect these days. Who wants to have the ingredients of a chemical laboratory directly on their skin?

In the interview, the Galaxus T-shirt isn't buttoned up at all, but provides candid information.

By the way, I think you're in good shape.

Thank you, thank you. I'm glad you noticed that. By the way, 'body-hugging and straight cut' is the technical term for this. And if you want to know exactly, you could look up every measurement to the millimetre on the pattern instructions. You're a size L type, aren't you?

Well spotted, yes, just over 1.90 metres tall, weighing 84 kilos. L fits me well, and the length at the back is also right for me.

Nice! So the own-brand people at Galaxus haven't done everything wrong after all.

You're very strict with them.

And rightly so. Haven't you noticed that the label on the left inside seam is missing?

The product designer says they deliberately placed the label on the inside at the top of the collar.

You can do that. But then some people don't know whether they're wearing the shirt the right way round. There are many people who orientate themselves by the label on the side before pulling a T-shirt over their head.

Oh, okay ... I'm happy to pass that on. Thank you.

Thank you. So, if there's nothing else - you can link the products below. Then maybe someone will buy me soon after all.

Will do. Thanks for the chat.
