I don't carry an ounce too much

The many beauty products make up most of the weight in my luggage. Nevertheless, thanks to a few little tricks, I am lighter than my friends when travelling.

My travelling companions are always surprised at my lightweight beauty equipment because I don't usually take a minimalist approach in this area. Because travelling to and from my destination puts my nerves in a state of emergency, heavy luggage is the last thing I need. Unfortunately, it's my beloved beauty products that weigh the most. That's why, when packing, I pay very close attention to what I can take with me, in what form and where I place it.

Look through

I now only use transparent plastic toiletry bags. They may not be environmentally friendly, but they are my long-lasting companions. Why? They are easy to clean if something leaks. I can also see what's in them at a glance from the outside. Toiletry bags with nets also fulfil this purpose. I find fold-out models with several compartments particularly practical. This way, I can store my liquid hygiene products such as make-up remover and the like separately from my powders and brushes so that they are protected from any products that might leak out. I place the toiletry bag itself at the bottom of the suitcase. This means that the heaviest weight is at the bottom, directly above the wheels, so that my clothes are not flattened. Thanks to the tip from Vanessa Kim, I store products such as hairsprays and deodorants in my shoes to make the most of the space in my suitcase. Back question

I've packed things countless times only to lug them home unused. That's why I double and triple check everything before packing: does my accommodation have the basics (such as shower gel or a hairdryer)? Can I manage without my conditioner for a few days? Can I buy certain products such as shampoo, deodorant and toothpaste locally (depending on the length of the holiday, this may make sense) or even share them with my travel companion? Coordinating with my friends has already saved me a lot of stress.

Minimise

Once you know what you want to take with you, think about the shape and size. For example, multi-purpose products such as an all-purpose balm are worth considering. Mine always comes with me because I use it from head to toe for various purposes: as a lip balm, anti-frizz cream for my hair or body butter.

When choosing my brushes, I limit myself to a maximum of three, which I use for different things at the same time: one brush for liquid products like primer, foundation and concealer, one for powdery textures like blush, bronzer and highlighter and one for my eyeshadows. After each step, I "clean" the hairs with circular movements on a cosmetic tissue. Cotton pads are not heavy, but they are bulky. That's why I only ever take one reusable bamboo pad with me, which I wash out after each use. [[image:22227188 "3 in 1: My 20 gram multi-purpose balm replaces several 275 gram products.",22227189 "My full-size foundation weighs 140 grams, while the small plastic violet only weighs 9 grams."]]

Travel sizes don't bear their name for nothing. I only carry full-size products with me when I don't have a miniature alternative to hand and don't have a bottling facility. To make sure this hardly ever happens, I keep empty cream jars and other suitable containers. This allows me to fill my favourite products at any time. Sometimes even travel sizes, depending on the length of your holiday, are too generous, so it makes sense to fill the product into an even smaller container. [[productlist:5591940]]

Foundations and perfumes in particular weigh a lot in their glass bottles if you don't portion them out. For the former, I use a tiny little plastic vial that I once received a sample in. If you're lucky, you might receive your favourite fragrance as a tester somewhere as a gift or find a little sample of it in a women's magazine. If not, there are also small perfume atomisers in travel format that you can fill with your perfume. [[productlist:6001172]]

For me, it doesn't always have to be my firm favourites that I pack. When I'm on holiday, I like to take the opportunity to try out new products. The best way to do this is to pick out a few samples that I've collected over the year. Also solid shampoos and body soaps because I can cut them to any size I want. This is particularly worthwhile when I'm travelling with hand luggage and the 1-litre limit on liquids already restricts me anyway.

Mini sizes and pre-cut soap bars prove their worth.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
