How to become world darts champion!

After the World Cup is before the World Cup! The final of the 2017 World Darts Championship took place on 2 January. Find out who won and how to start your darts career here.
The World Darts Championship
Michael van Gerwen won this year's World Darts Championship final against two-time world champion Gary Anderson (2015 and 2016). The next World Darts Championship will take place in just under a year from 15 December 2017 to 2 January 2018. So now is the perfect time to start practising. After all, darts is not a boring pub pastime, but a high-class precision sport.
There are numerous versions of darts. In most games, including at the World Cup, the "501 doubles" mode is played. This means that the first player to throw exactly 501 points in a leg (the smallest unit of play) wins. The last throw of a leg must be on a double field (outer ring or bull's eye). Three leg wins win a set. In the preliminary round of the World Championship, players must win three sets to make it through to the main draw. In the following rounds, the participants need to win more and more sets to remain in the tournament. The world champion is the player who wins seven sets (best of 13). A set must always be won with a two-leg advantage. If the score is 5:5, a sudden-death leg is played to decide the outcome of the match. The players decide who gets to start the deciding leg by throwing a bull on the centre of the disc, giving them a small advantage.
The perfect pass
The fastest way to get 501 points to zero is the so-called "nine-darter". There are a total of 71 variants to achieve the nine-dart finish. However, at least nine darts are always required. No participant managed this during this year's World Championship. Last year, Gary Anderson managed it in the semi-finals - what a celebration!
Your starter set
Who knows, maybe you'll soon be competing against Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson. Or, a slightly less ambitious goal: you manage a nine-darter. Either way, a classic, inexpensive disc forms the basis for your new hobby. A wall guard is a good idea all round. We're assuming that you won't hit the bullseye or the target with every arrow. Add a six-pack of arrows and you're ready for your first round. Which arrows you need is a science in itself. Generally speaking, longer and heavier darts are better for beginners.
Now it's time to practise, practise, practise. And keep adding to your collection. From the grinding stone for the metal tips of the darts to the premium velour dart mat and the dartboard-shaped keyring, we have everything your darting heart desires.

I love the strategy game “The Settlers of Catan”, the Ravensburger puzzle “Colourful Cupcakes” and the pink fluffy unicorn that sits on my desk (a birthday present from my workmates). Not only do I have a weakness for toys, I also get excited about good food and comedy TV shows.
