How «kawaii» are these crochet creatures!?

Crocheting’s both therapeutic and fun. Now the Japanese crochet trend amigurumi is turning this pastime into an art form. Expect cute little creatures that’ll make you go «aaaawwww».

The Japanese crochet trend made its way into our lives a while ago. And rightly so, if you ask me. Amigurumi figures are incredibly sweet, and their button eyes breathe life into even the simplest slice of water melon. Kawaii (which is Japanese for cute), is all I can say. Here are my favourite amigurumi sets available from Galaxus.

Animal friends

From majestic narwhal, to prehistoric pterosaur to the not-so-cute spider – they all melt my heart when they’re the result of the Japanese crochet trend.

Forever plants

Don’t have green fingers? Then these crochet kits or the book are perfect for you. Think about, you’ll never have to water these cactuses. Yep, you read right. They’ll stay colourful and healthy even if you’ve put them in a shady spot.

Sweet and sour

When life gives you a crochet hook and yellow yarn, make sweet lemons. Or popcorn or a fruit bowl. Plus, this set knows its fruit, as the addition of an avocado proves. Educational, to say the least.

Festive figurines

This year, I might just decorate my Christmas tree with amigurumi figurines as well as baubles. It depends on how fast I get at crocheting.

TV classics

Naturally, many a movie character has also been turned into a crochet version of itself. Harry Potter, Star Wars, characters from the Studio Ghibli universe or Pokémon – you can turn them all into a cutesy crochet version of themselves.

If you’re making an amigurumi for the first time, I recommend checking out an article where I’ve linked the most important videos for a great and easy start.

Painting the walls just before handing over the flat? Making your own kimchi? Soldering a broken raclette oven? There's nothing you can't do yourself. Well, perhaps sometimes, but I'll definitely give it a try.
