Finding the right shoes for winter isn’t easy. Here are 18 recommendations, from chunky boots to waterproof sneakers.
The first snowfall caused great fashion chaos in my circle of friends, leaving many wondering what shoes to wear. After all, you want your feet to stay warm and dry in the snow (or slush) without completely sabotaging your look. Not an easy task. Here are six suggestions from the men’s and women’s shoe range, divided into three categories.
Chunky boots
Chunky boots have been on trend for several years and are still going strong. Equipped with thick soles and a pronounced profile, they offer good grip and keep feet and trouser hems away from the cold, wet ground. Classics such as Chelsea boots with the typical elastic side panel and pull loop aren’t only stylish, but also easy to put on and take off. That’s handy if you have freezing cold and stiff fingers. They’re also super versatile and go well with wide and straight-cut trousers. Chunky knee-high boots are another great option. They look good with winter tights and skirt combos and can also be worn under most trousers if the bootleg is snug enough. As a bonus, they keep your calves warm.

If you’re a loyal sneaker or streetwear fan and spend the winter months longing for sneaker weather, here’s a between-season solution for you: hiking sneakers. Sounds pretty unstylish, I know, but in times of Gorpcore and athleisure wear, they’re bang on trend. The French brand Salomon specialises in outdoor sports and offers numerous sneakers with good grip that are waterproof and wind-resistant – ideal for winter. Even style icon Rihanna wears Salomon sneakers. Combine them well and they look super stylish. This also applies to shoes such as the Nike City Classic or Adidas Terrex models.

Snow boots
Non-slip, waterproof, insulating and fluffy on the inside – snow boots are perfect for the frosty winter months. But can they look good? Absolutely. As long as they look like puffer jackets in the shape of shoes, they’re sure to go well with casual streetwear outfits. The iconic Moon Boots, for example, are back in fashion after being rebranded in 2021. The Yose boots by Ugg look nice and casual and are designed to keep you warm down to temperatures of minus 32 degrees Celsius. Styling tip: calf-high boots are easier to combine than knee-high ones.
