Wednesday season 2 is a flop
by Luca Fontana
When temperatures drop outside, I go warm and fuzzy inside. Not because December’s drawing near, though.
It’s Hamburg in autumn. It’s rainy, grey and stormy. Cheerful black coats, combined with half-crumpled umbrellas fill the streets. The waves pile up on the Elbe, while a small ferry tirelessly makes its way through the wild waters. It’s the time my inner vampire crawls out of its ice-cold coffin.
Summer’s over, spooky season’s here. What about Christmas, you wonder? Pffft, that’s for wimps. Decorating a fir tree with tinsel isn’t impressive. It’s cheesy! Plus, I’ve never liked the taste of vanilla, cinnamon and cardamom. The only drink with a hint of cinnamon I can tolerate slurping on is pumpkin spice coffee. Homemade, of course, with Monin syrup.
Oh, and then you can listen to all those scary podcasts! You may already know that I’m a big fan of «Aktenzeichen Paranormal» (The Paranormal Files). Anyway, I interviewed the two hosts, Conny and Patrick, last year. Now they’re going on tour and coming to Hamburg. Of course I’ve already bought my ticket.
What fascinates me so much about the supernatural isn’t necessarily the scary factor. But rather the following thought experiment: what if every ghost story has an element of truth to it? What if we oh-so-self-centred people aren’t alone in this world? In any case, these kinds of thoughts keep me grounded. And when better to philosophise about this than in autumn, when barbeque gatherings are long over?
What I also enjoy at this time of year is that people aren’t pushing their way through the crowded city centre in search of last-minute gifts. No. Now we’re in that eerily beautiful in-between phase where the year takes a break before the X-mas madness kicks off.
It’s actually so sad that it’s all over again from November. I suppose I could just leave my pumpkin fairy lights hanging a little longer this year. After all, it’s not for nothing that I’m known as the Grinch of the Galaxus editorial team.
On that note, my hood’s pulled over my head and I’m off to my tomb. There’s Wi-Fi there now. And horror movies await me.
As a child, I was socialised with Mario Kart on SNES before ending up in journalism after graduating from high school. As a team leader at Galaxus, I'm responsible for news. I'm also a trekkie and an engineer.
This is a subjective opinion of the editorial team. It doesn't necessarily reflect the position of the company.
Show allThis season is when I regularly find myself sitting on the sofa with a steaming hot drink, wrapped up in my blanket. The lights are dimmed, I’ve got True Crime or Horror on the TV. While at Christmas it’s usually just the umpteenth rerun of «It’s a Wonderful Life», in autumn there’s SO MUCH good stuff to watch and not enough time. First I devoured Monster: Ed Gein on Netflix, then I watched True Haunting and next up is The Nun 2. Wednesday, Season 2 is on the wait list, even if my colleague Luca didn’t think it was all that great.
