Digitec branch in Winterthur soon to be a Galaxus store and relocated to the train station

Galaxus opens new store at Winterthur station

Galaxus has opened a brand-new brick-and-mortar store at Winterthur station. Centrally located directly above the main staircase to the platforms, the online retailer is now even more closely integrated into its customers’ everyday lives.
At 10 a.m. on 11 August, the Galaxus store at Winterthur train station (1st floor, Bahnhofplatz 5, 8400 Winterthur) will open its doors for the first time. It’s the first Galaxus store to open with a brand-new concept. To date, there’s only been one Galaxus store, in Wohlen.
At the new location, customers will have the chance to pick up orders, drop off returns, and shop from a limited range catering to commuters. What’s more, they’ll be able to do so 365 days a year.
Here are the Winterthur store’s opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Saturday, Sunday and public holidays: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Centrally located at Winterthur’s buzzing train station, the new store is easily accessible by public transport. Customers arriving by car can use the «Bahnhof-Parkhaus Winterthur» (page in German).
Galaxus now an even bigger part of customers’ everyday lives
The Winterthur station store has 200 square metres of floor space, including its stockroom. This makes it the smallest store Digitec Galaxus has opened to date. Unlike in other stores, there’s no display area for mobile phones, headphones and similar products at the Winterthur location. Daniel Cyganek, Head of Retail at Galaxus, explains: «We’ve decided to focus on our digital showroom concept instead, choosing a location with a lot of footfall. This means our customers won’t have far to go to collect orders, make returns or get assistance.»
An almost 27-square-metre LED wall serves as a digital display of products from the Galaxus range. Thanks to its size and positioning, it’s also visible in the pedestrian zone or at the bus station.
The Galaxus store in Winterthur is the first of its kind. «In choosing such a central location for this store, we’ve made it even more convenient for our customers to shop with us – and have become a bigger part of their everyday lives,» says Daniel.
As the new Galaxus store opens, the previous Digitec store on Zürcherstrasse 42 will close its doors for the last time on 8 August 2025. Galaxus isn’t currently planning to open any additional stores.
