Topping-out ceremony: Galaxus’s new Neuenburg am Rhein warehouse has twice the space of Munich’s Allianz Arena
by Daniel Borchers
After 13 months of construction work and two years of planning, the day has finally come. Galaxus Deutschland has opened the first of two logistics centres in Neuenburg am Rhein. Around 50 employees are on site to ensure opening day goes smoothly. In the mid-term, 1,200 people are set to begin working across both warehouses, which will be serving Galaxus customers in Switzerland and the EU.
The ON2 construction project is also in the latter stages, meaning Galaxus teams will be able to move into the warehouse at the end of the year. It’ll take the whole of 2026 to install the technical facilities. Standard operations will begin in ON2 with Galaxus employees from around mid 2027.
Galaxus would like to thank the organisations who’ve supported it in opening its new location. These include its landlord, representatives of the town of Neuenburg and the district, the construction companies, tradespeople and neighbours such as Camping Park Gugel.

Mayor Jens Fondy-Langela described it as «the largest commercial development in Neuenburg since the 1960s» last year. Today, it’s finally ready for action. On 13 October, Galaxus is opening its Neuenburg am Rhein branch, commencing operations in the first of two warehouses. The large goods warehouse, known within the company as ON1 (Operations Centre Neuenburg 1), is located on Neuenburg’s industrial estate on the eastern side of Hans-Buck-Straße. It’s now gradually being filled with washing machines, sofas, fridges, garden furniture and other products. Set to consist of 30,000 square metres of warehouse- and office space, this new logistics hub is being created directly on the A5 motorway at the intersection of Germany, Switzerland and France. The second warehouse, ON2, is being built just a stone’s throw away, west of Hans-Buck-Straße. It’ll stretch across an area measuring 60,000 square metres. By 2030, Galaxus plans to hire 1,200 employees in the fields of logistics, technology and IT, HR, project management and supply chain management in Neuenburg am Rhein.
Michael Stolle, COO at Digitec Galaxus AG and CEO of Galaxus in Germany said: «We’re incredibly proud of the employees across all of our locations who’ve helped us to get Neuenburg am Rhein up and running so quickly. ON1’s basic fit-out is complete and we’ve made the first few company-specific customisations. We’re still working on getting some infrastructure in place, including shelves, workstations and our network. However, we’ll be able to start dispatching parcels from the warehouse by the end of this week.»
Florian Teuteberg, founder and CEO of Digitec Galaxus AG said: «Neuenburg am Rhein will play a key role in our Swiss operations. Our warehouses in Switzerland have reached full capacity, but with this new location, we’re creating conditions for further growth. We want to expand both in Switzerland and the EU, while reliably meeting our customers’ growing needs. Neuenburg am Rhein will make a crucial contribution to that.» Galaxus also intends to open additional logistics branches in the Swiss municipalities of Rafz and Utzensdorf. However, these projects have been delayed due to local planning objections.
Around 50 new Galaxus employees have started working at the Neuenburg am Rhein location, with this figure set to significantly increase year on year. Thomas Decke has been appointed as ON1’s Site Operations Lead. He’ll be joining Galaxus from laundry company Elis on 1 November , having previously gained management experience in online retail at Amazon. Galaxus has also successfully recruited logistics team leaders and HR specialists for Neuenburg am Rhein. To find logistics professionals, the online retailer advertised two casting days on social media to be held in the nearby towns of Freiburg (D) and Mulhouse (F). 120 potential candidates signed up, 80 attended and 34 were hired at the end of the process. If you’d like to find out more about the casting days, Galaxus has written about them in more detail here.
