Gadgets as a fashion statement

The market for smartphone accessories is booming: mobile phones now not only have to offer something technically, but also visually.
It's not just the clothes that need to be chosen correctly these days. No. Gadgets for your smartphone such as headphones and the like should now also match the rest of your outfit. My friend B. from Z. is a prime example of this: not only does she think about what to wear every morning, she also thinks about which phone case will match the colour. Next to her lingerie drawer, she has a shelf for all her cases, which she mixes and matches as the mood takes her. She even has a velour mobile phone clutch for nightlife. My friend isn't the only one in my circle of friends who changes her smartphone case more often than her pants.
No wonder mobile phone manufacturers are becoming increasingly inventive when it comes to looks and style. After all, a case has long since ceased to serve merely as protection, but as an accessory. One brand for lifestyle enthusiasts is Ideal of Sweden. Its range includes not only marble-look chargers, but also cases that are reminiscent of evening bags or wallets. The cases from Woodcessories, on the other hand, are a little more masculine.

Another trend that is slowly but surely making its way across the pond is mobile phone chains. These are plastic sleeves with a cord attached to them. You use them to hang your mobile around your neck. Admittedly, they are not pretty, but they are practical: you always have your smartphone with you and still have both hands free. If you prefer the chic version, go for a model with a silver or gold link chain.

Headphones have also evolved from an everyday item to a trendy accessory. They now belong on the catwalk like the Amen in church. At fashion houses such as Maison Margiela, the gadget is an integral part of the collection - as an accessory that blends in with the outfit. For example, when the in-ears peek out of the collar of a top or are worn like a necklace. That's why small headphones no longer belong in your bag when not in use, but around your neck. Models from the brand Beats by Dr Dre set the tone in terms of looks. Huge on-ear headphones now score points with trendy colours or a retro design, as is the case with the products from Marshall. There's a lot on the ears.

When I’m not exploring the depths of the sea as an open water diver, I enjoy plunging into the world of fashion. On the streets of Paris, Milan and New York is where I keep my eyes peeled for the latest trends. And I’ll show you how to take them from the catwalk to your everyday life.
