Once again, there’s a new addition to our own-brand range: stainless steel bowls. Read on to find out what I think of the set of four.
The Galaxus own-brand team has reached the kitchen on its tour of the home. Always on the lookout for items that should be both good and affordable. The happy medium, in other words. And the experts have found just the thing – kitchen bowls.
There is certainly no shortage of bowls and dishes in the Galaxus range. With 7,781 products, the selection is slightly larger than that of exotic fruits in a shop in the former GDR. Is there really a need for a 7,782nd bowl set? The own-brand team says: Yes.
I don’t entirely agree with this clear statement just yet; I want to gain a bit more experience in the kitchen first. Even though the first salad from the large four-litre bowl tasted good. Though that was probably less down to the bowl itself.

But you’re welcome to give your own verdict too. If you happen to need a few new bowls, buy them and rate them afterwards with one, two, three, four or five stars. That way, I don’t have to write a gushing review here and can stick to the facts.
So, we have a set of four bowls here, with capacities of one, two, three and four litres. The material is stainless steel, specifically 304 stainless steel. This means it can be safely used in the oven up to 170 degrees and can withstand short-term heat of up to 250 degrees.
The 304 steel alloy consists of around 18 per cent chromium and at least eight per cent nickel. That’s why you’ll often see the material referred to as 18/8» or ‘ «’. The chromium forms a kind of invisible oxide layer on the surface, which regenerates itself when scratched – this provides enhanced corrosion protection. You can safely use and store cold or hot, sweet or sour foods in Galaxus bowls. Only rather salty foods could corrode the material over time. That’s why things like kimchi or sauerkraut are better kept in glass.
Do I need to say any more about how to use bowls? Well, in case there are any gaps in your home economics knowledge: you use a bowl, for example, to mix sauces or combine ingredients for dough. An advanced use is weighing out quantities; for this, however, you’ll need a set of scales as an additional kitchen tool. Galaxus doesn’t yet have its own brand, but you can still find such appliances in the shop.
