Dyson abandons electric car project

In 2016, the hoover manufacturer announced that it wanted to enter the electric car market. Three years later, the project has been buried. The firm has not found any buyers.
Dyson is known for its hoovers, air conditioners and hair appliances. Hardly anyone was aware that the industrial giant wanted to make its way into the electric car industry. Quietly, the manufacturer invested billions of dollars in development and built a test site for the modest sum of $260 million. As BBC reports, this project has already been buried.

James Dyson, founder of the company, explained the failure in a e-mail to his employees: "Although we have tried very hard throughout the development process, we no longer see any way to make it economically viable."

Even though its electric car won't see the light of day, Dyson remains optimistic that the know-how it has acquired will still be useful: "This is neither a product failure nor a team failure. Our battery will benefit Dyson and take us in exciting new directions," so we can't wait to find out what the hoover manufacturer will do with its car battery. One thing's for sure: the company has no shortage of financial resources and plenty of heads to carry out its projects. Ideas are sure to come too.
