Do it yourself: cacti for unskilled hobby gardeners

Just like me, you don't have green fingers, chase even undemanding cacti into the afterlife and still want to breathe some life into your four walls with decorative greenery? Then I've got just the thing for you. Homemade fake cacti made from stone. Unbreakable and absolutely easy to care for, I promise!

My home could definitely do with a bit more greenery. The thing is: Plants choose death over living with me ten times out of ten. Unless they're made of stone ...

What you need for this:

  • Flower pot
  • Wadding
  • white decorative stones
  • large stones
  • Newspapers
  • Acrylic paint in white, yellow, green, black, pink
  • Brush
  • Waterproof pen in white
  • Pink crepe paper
  • All-purpose glue

And this is how it's done

Step 1: Fill the flower pot almost to the brim with cotton wool. This step is necessary so that you don't have to fill the whole pot with stones later and the weight for your shelf is kept to a minimum. [[image:7679721]]

Step 2: Then sprinkle the white pebbles over it until the cotton wool is no longer visible. [[image:7679723]]

Step 3: Now paint the stones you have collected outside green. You can go wild here. Just leave the bottom tip of the stones unpainted, as this will be stuck in the pot anyway and will therefore no longer be visible later. Feel free to vary the shades of green. I mixed my green acrylic paint with a little black, yellow and/or white. If you don't mind a little more effort, you can also work out shades with different shades of green and glue stones together. Step 4: Once the green colour has dried, you can start on the details. The fake needles are best painted on with a waterproof white pen. Fake pink plastic flowers made from crepe paper also look good at the top of the cactus's head. [[image:7679726]]

Step 5: Now you can plant your masterpieces in the pot and arrange them as desired. [[image:7679887]]

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
