DIY Tuesday: fruity decorative drinking glasses for the garden party

Do you have more to celebrate than just summer soon and urgently need a decorative idea to make it a visual eye-catcher? No problem, it's easy to make yourself.
Melon-look drinking glasses not only look cute, but you can also make them yourself with just a few crafting tools.

Everything you need for this:
- Mason jar
- white string
- Scissors
- green acrylic paint
- brush
- waterproof pen, black

Amsterdam Acrylic Paint Standard Series 619
Permanent green Dark, 120 ml

Step 1: Grab the string and measure how much of it you need to wrap the bottom third of the jar. Then cut off the measured length of string.
Step 2: Colour the string green with the acrylic paint. It is best to place it on a sheet of cling film for colouring. This way, you can make sure that the string doesn't stick to the surface once it has dried. I used coated crepe paper as a base for my first attempt (as shown in the photo below) - and failed miserably. The string could no longer be removed from the paper. I simply applied the paint with a brush, making sure that the string was coloured equally well on all sides. Just leave to dry well at the end.

Step 3: Once the string is dry, you can peel it off the cling film and scrape off the excess paint with the scissor blade.
Step 4: Now comes the patience part. Turn your glass upside down (i.e. upside down on the table) and grab a good superglue. Then start gluing the string centimetre by centimetre in front of the glass. Take your time here, as you need to give it a few minutes to dry from round to round before tackling the next round. Repeat the whole process until all the string has been wrapped around the glass. A little warning: my hands were full of glue at the end - it won't be any different for you.

Step 5: Now all that's missing are the melon seeds. Simply draw them on the glass at regular intervals with the waterproof pen.

Step 6: To make our glass look like melon, all you have to do is pour yourself and your guests something pink to drink. For me, it was raspberry syrup.

There was something else:
The disadvantage is clearly that the glasses cannot be put in the dishwasher, but must be carefully rinsed out without getting the string-covered bottom part wet. Just as a piece of information that should go without saying.
And now: Cheers!

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
