Quick as a flash: Digitec Galaxus launches same-day delivery in Zurich
by Rico Schüpbach
Digitec Galaxus has put a new warehouse into operation in Dintikon, Aargau. It offers enough space to accommodate even the largest of items, such as furniture or TVs. At the same time, the online retailer is already expanding their new hall in the neighbouring Wohlen.
The Swiss online retailer Digitec Galaxus has recently opened a new warehouse located in Dintikon in the canton of Aargau. On an area of 10,000 square metres, five times the size of Zurich’s main station concourse, large goods will find a new home before their delivery to a customer. Items such as TVs or furniture. «Quick delivery is important to our customers, especially when it comes to Summer furniture such as garden lounges and such,» Florian Teuteberg, Digitec Galaxus CEO, said.
Digitec Galaxus now stores a total of around 6000 individual articles in Dintikon, each taking up the area of at least one European pallet (1.2m x 0.8m). The three floors are connected by two goods lifts, each of which can lift a fully-loaded forklift truck. About a dozen employees are responsible for its operation and can handle up to 800 orders per day.
The warehouse in Dintikon is only a few kilometres away from Digitec Galaxus' current central warehouse base in Wohlen. Aside from smaller products, larger items will still be stored there for now. «This new warehouse for XXL-products allows us to deliver larger articles even quicker,» Teuteberg continued. Together, these two warehouses will cover over 50,000 m2 of storage space for the first time ever. Enough space for more than seven World Cup football fields. Another warehouse for mini-products is being built in Wohlen as well. Meanwhile, Digitec Galaxus is already working on its next warehouse directly across from the Wohlen central warehouse: The online retailer is expected to put a fully automated shuttle warehouse for 180,000 mini products into operation in that location from spring 2020. It will handle any products that can be gripped with one hand. A few examples being mobile phone covers, sports bras or flashlights. The go-ahead for the installation of this new shuttle warehouse was given in early April. Since then, construction has been in full swing.
