Two pots, one tank for water - that's the new "Boum Core" set, which will be launched in 2026. The Swiss company behind the smart system wants to score points on city balconies and small terraces.

Don't know Boum? Then you're probably the wrong target group. Unlike my colleague Darina. She was so intrigued by the constant adverts that she recently tested the first Boum product extensively.

Now the announcement of a new starter set has arrived. The «Boum Core» consists of a 32-litre water tank, a solar-powered control unit and two self-watering planters, each with a volume of 13 litres. The control unit provides data on water consumption and water level via WLAN. A pump integrated into the tank supplies water to the flower pot reservoirs via a hose connection.

Capillary wicks are installed under the plant pots. The plants use them to supply themselves with the right amount of water. The control unit of the «Boum Core» also serves as a rain catcher. The system is controlled via the Boum app. It provides information on how to optimally care for and fertilise your plants and find the right spot for them.

The price for the new set with two pots will be just under 200 francs. By comparison, the existing «starter set» costs around 300 francs. It consists of a 35-litre pot as a water reservoir and a 15-litre pot for the plant.

The saving on the new «Boum Core» set is due to the cheaper material used for the pots. Nevertheless, according to the manufacturer, they are just as UV and frost resistant. And good news for you if you want to expand an existing Boum system: it will work.

Of course, at 200 francs, the new set from Boum is no bargain. However, if, like me, you have more of a brown thumb than a green one, then the set could be of interest to you. Just don't start calculating when the basil grown in the Boum pot will have produced enough leaves to make it worthwhile compared to buying it in the supermarket.

We'll let you know as soon as the new set is available to order. Alternatively, you can pre-order today directly from the Boum website.
