Child seat with alarm system is now mandatory in Italy

In Italy, child seats must have an alarm system in future. This decision by the Italian parliament will come into force on 7 November 2019.
A month ago, I reported on child-seats with alarm systems. Every year, several children die because parents forget them in the car. The warning signal is intended to alert parents that there is still a child in the car. Now our southern neighbouring country has put its money where its mouth is: from 7 November 2019, it will no longer be permitted to drive with a child seat without an alarm system in Italy. Parents with children up to the age of four will have 120 days from this date to take the necessary precautions. They can retrofit the child seats or buy a new model with an integrated signalling system. Penalties will follow from 6 March 2020, according to chamber representative Renate Gebhard.
The obligation applies to all vehicles registered in Italy or to drivers resident in Italy. It therefore also affects Italian cross-border commuters. However, tourists are not affected by this regulation. So next year, you can safely drive your car with all the family to the south without being fined. However, if you hire a car in Italy, the situation is a little different. Although the responsibility lies with the Italian car hire company, I would advise you to be careful. It's easier to check whether the rented child seat has an alarm system than to get into a possible argument with the carabinieri about a fine.
The question now is whether Italy is leading the way for other EU countries or whether this new obligation will remain a purely Italian phenomenon.
Currently, our range only includes child seats from Cybex with integrated "Sensor Safe" technology and a model from Cybex.a href="/en/s10/product/chicco-oasys-i-size-bebecare-india-ink-child-seat-10893219">Chicco with integrated "BebeCare" system. Further products and retrofit components will certainly be added to the range in the coming weeks and months. <p
