Cheque from Steve Jobs to be auctioned for at least 25,000 dollars
A cheque signed by Steve Jobs to the electronics shop RadioShack from 1976 is up for sale. At this time, Jobs and his partner Steve Wozniak were working on the first Apple computer.
On 23 July 1976, Steve Jobs signed a cheque on behalf of Apple Computer. 47 years later, the piece of paper is being auctioned on the auction platform RR Auction. The current bid is 25,000 US dollars and the auction will end on the night of 6 to 7 December, Swiss time.
Jobs wrote the cheque for 4 US dollars and 1 US cent to RadioShack while he was still running Apple from his parents' garage in Palo Alto. Apple's address on the cheque was that of a mailbox service. Steve Jobs and co-founder Steve Wozniak were working on the Apple-1 at the time, of which they sold 50 units to "The Byte Shop". A story that was also recreated in the film "Jobs".
RadioShack was an electronics shop for hobbyists and enthusiasts. Among other things, Wozniak bought the "TRS-80 Micro Computer System" there. He used it to build the "Blue Box", which could be used to make free long-distance calls illegally. The two Apple founders sold around 200 of these boxes for 150 US dollars each. Jobs later told his biographer that the proceeds were the basis for the company.
