CES 2022: Acer unveils three new Chromebooks
Acer introduced three new Chromebooks at the CES in Las Vegas. Among them is one with a processor developed especially for Chromebooks.
The Chromebook Spin 513 is the top model among the new launches with Chrome OS as the operating system. In return, the Chromebook 314 and 315 score with anti-reflective displays and a touchpad made from recycled marine plastic waste. It's supposed to feel like glass.
Chromebook Spin 513
The Acer Chromebook Spin 513 packs a new processor, the Mediatek Kompanio 1380, with eight processing cores. The chip maker's Kompanio series is designed for Chromebooks and is meant to not only deliver performance, but also increase battery life. According to the manufacturer, the battery lasts up to 10 hours on the Spin 513.
The 13.5-inch display has a 3:2 aspect ratio and a high resolution of 2256×1504 pixels. Most notebooks have a narrower screen with 16:9. The screen rotates 360 degrees, allowing you to set the Chromebook up differently or use it as a tablet.
The case of the new Chromebook Spin 513 is made of aluminum and the keyboard is illuminated. When it comes to ports, Acer communicates only a single USB-C port so far.
Chromebook 315
The Acer Chromebook 315 has a 15.6-inch screen, which can optionally be a touchscreen. The IPS display with Full HD resolution is anti-glare. Its battery is also supposed to last ten hours. However, Acer did not yet provide any information about the installed processor.
Thanks to its large display, the Chromebook has enough room for a keyboard with number pad. You will also find two USB-C ports and a microSD card reader on its sides. The HDR webcam is supposed to reduce stray light, and the dual microphones make sure you're easy to understand in video calls.
Chromebook 314
Acer touts the Chromebook 314 as a work device for students. The 14-inch anti-reflective screen with Full HD resolution is a good foundation for this. It can also be a touchscreen if needed. The "latest Intel Core processors" are supposed to work under the hood. However, the manufacturer does not get more specific in its announcement.
The Chromebook 314's webcam is supposed to deliver good pictures in low-light conditions. Acer calls the technology behind it "Temporal Noise Reduction". Two microphones complete the setup for video calls. Two USB-C ports are supposed to be sufficient for peripherals.
Price and availability
The three new Chromebooks are expected to be available in April 2022. There is no suggested retail price for the new Chromebook Spin 513 yet, but it is expected to be more expensive than its Snapdragon processor predecessor. It is supposed to be 399 Euros for the Chromebook 315 in Germany and 369 Euros for the Chromebook 314.
