Careful! These touchscreen stickers ruined one of my gloves
Thanks to Digiskin, you can supposedly make any glove usable on smartphone screens. I tested how well it really works – and ruined my glove in the process.
In truth, I don’t want to take my gloves off for even a second with these icy temperatures outside. Sadly, the touchscreen on my smartphone isn’t very cooperative – and regardless of the time of year, I have to skip songs, answer calls, look up train connections and buy tickets. In the end, I end up standing in the cold with bare fingers.
Digiskin intends to solve this dilemma. These stickers for your index finger and thumb promise to make any ordinary glove touchscreen-compatible. But how? Well, they’re mad of a conductive material that simulates the static electricity of a finger.
The packaging contains five stickers, each in two sizes, ten stickers in total. According to the manufacturer, they adhere to different materials, such as wool, (artificial) leather, suede and synthetic fabrics such as fleece.
Works – but not without pitfalls
I make my first attempt with gloves made from artificial smooth leather, placing a sticker on each of my index fingers and thumbs. They adhere wonderfully. And since both the gloves and stickers are black and slightly shiny, they aren’t too noticeable on my index finger and thumb. But they still bother me a little.

But now to the most important point: does my phone work with it? Yes! I can suddenly use my smartphone with gloves on. Usually, touchscreens don’t react at all. This proves extremely practical in everyday life.
After a week of regular use, the stickers still adhere well. A little too good, as it turns out. Unfortunately. I want to see how well they can be removed and pull them off carefully. Damn: part of the artificial leather goes with it. Admittedly, my glove wasn’t the fanciest and has been around for a few years, suffering through numerous washes. As a result, it probably wasn’t that tough any more. Still, in my opinion, Digiskins should carry a warning.

An anxious second attempt
After the stickers ripped my trusty winter companion, I’m actually quite annoyed with them. For testing purposes, I let them near another potential victim regardless, this time a dark red knit model. The sticker doesn’t adhere quite so cleanly to the fluffy material, but still stays on surprisingly well.

However, it stands out all the more due to its colour and texture. Especially when the edges peel off a little after a short time and creases form. Even so, the product fulfills its main task: arming gloves for touchscreens. The plaster tears a few fibres when it’s removed, but on the whole my gloves remain intact.

In a nutshell
No thanks
