Blizzard works on new survival game
Blizzard has announced its next game. It will take place in a new universe and won't be a spin-off of an existing brand.
For once, Blizzard is not making headlines with another scandalous announcement. The troubled cult studio has announced a new game and is looking for suitable personnel for it.
Apart from two pictures and a short description, there are no concrete details yet. Blizzard describes the game as a survival game for PC and consoles in a brand new universe. "A place full of heroes we haven't met yet, full of stories yet to be told, and full of adventures yet to be experienced," the website states, both flowery and unspecific. The game is likely still in a relatively early stage of development.
Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra writes on Twitter that he has already played many hours and that he is happy when the players can dive into it together. This could mean that it is a multiplayer title. Industry expert Jason Schreier also commented on Twitter that even some of the most disgruntled employees are said to be raving about the game and the team.
First new brand in seven years
Since "Overwatch" in 2016, Blizzard has not released a standalone new game, let alone one that is not set in an existing universe. One of the images shown features two teenagers riding a bicycle in a world with floating locks. In the other, a hunter wearing an unusual animal mask examines colorful glowing footprints.
In de job posting, Blizzard emphasizes that they are looking for a diversified team that is willing to lend their voice, listen and be heard. Something that has yet to be proven considering the ongoing court case surrounding the abuse allegations.
When the game will be released is still up in the air. Following Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion, it is expected to be released exclusively for PC and Xbox.
