Binge watching - These 17 series are addictive

Admittedly, I'm a series addict. When a series really grabs me, I can watch the whole season in one go without any problems. This is called "binge watching". This is a small selection of my favourite series.

It's the weekend, the weather outside isn't very inviting and I read something about a new series the other day. So I take a look. Even if a series doesn't win me over from the very first episode, I usually give it four or five episodes to be able to say for sure whether I like it or not. Every now and then I discover really great pieces and as soon as I get up, it's already evening again. 😀

The following series are a small selection of the ones that have stuck with me. Admittedly, I've already watched some of them several times. I've organised them in alphabetical order for you. So it's not that I've created a ranking list, but more of a list. Have fun!

Band of Brothers

To be honest, this is not a typical series, but rather a mini-series of ten episodes. Nevertheless, "Band of Brothers" is one of my favourites when it comes to war films/series. It is about the American soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division during the Second World War. IMDb score: 9.5/10

Better Call Saul

This series is a spin-off of "Breaking Bad". It tells the story of the lawyer Saul Goodman, whose real name is Jimmy McGill. "Better Call Saul" is a must for all Breaking Bad fans among you! Who else can fool someone into thinking they're Kevin Costner? IMDb score: 8.7/10

Breaking Bad

"Breaking Bad" with Bryan Cranston (Malcom in the Middle) as the main character is one of my absolute favourite series. Walter White (Cranston) transforms himself over five seasons from a boring chemistry teacher to a feared crystal meth manufacturer. A series that is hard to beat in terms of suspense, drama and setbacks. IMDb score: 9.5/10

Daredevil

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) went blind in an accident during his childhood. His remaining senses became supernaturally enhanced. A lawyer by day and superhero by night, he fights evil in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighbourhood. "Daredevil" is a successful comic adaptation from Marvel in collaboration with Netflix. IMDb score: 8.8/10

Game of Thrones

Nine families fighting over the rule of Westeros and its seven kingdoms. This fantasy series is full of intrigue, secret machinations and unscrupulous kings. Even if you're not a fan of fantasy and the Middle Ages, this series will captivate you. IMDb score: 9.5/10

Homeland

"Homeland" is about an American soldier who was held captive in the Middle East for several years. After his release and return to the States, however, it is not clear whether he has been turned and defected to the enemy. IMDb score: 8.4/10

House of Cards

"House of Cards" is a series that reflects politics and the election campaign in the United States at its ugliest. You'll be hooked and disgusted by the machinations of the characters in this series after just a few episodes and won't be able to put it down. IMDb score: 9.0/10

Jessica Jones

"Jessica Jones" is another Marvel/Netflix production on this list. The former superheroine with post-traumatic stress syndrome and a slight tendency towards excessive alcohol consumption decides to turn her life around and become a private detective. IMDb score: 8.2/10

Luther

The English crime series about police officer John Luther (Idris Elba) shows the ugliness and banality of crime. The titular hero is obsessed, unyielding and on the wrong track in life, always one step away from a complete breakdown. But Luther is a damn good cop. "Luther" is the perfect series to lose faith in humanity. IMDb score: 8.6/10

Mr Robot

Hacker Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) earns his living as an IT security researcher by day. By night, however, he wants to make the world a better place and uses his hacking skills to do so. But he soon gets caught up in a dangerous web of revolutionary hackers, drugs and his own repressed emotions. This series hits the nerve of current affairs. Really worth seeing! IMDb score: 8.7/10

Narcos

The series tells the true story of the Colombian Medellin cartel and its drug lord Pablo Escobar. The paper chase between the "Patrón" and the police is conveyed in an extremely authentic way. Not least because the series is almost 70 per cent in Spanish. IMDb score: 8.9/10

Peaky Blinders

"Peaky Blinders" is a gangster epic between several families in the 1920s. In the English city of Birmingham, gypsies, Jews, Italians and Irishmen fight each other to the death. Well-dressed Englishmen with a penchant for violence. A marvellous series! IMDb score: 8.8/10

Person of Interest

A disabled programmer develops an artificial intelligence that enables him to predict planned crimes. Together with a former CIA contract killer, he tries to thwart these atrocities in advance. Excitingly packaged action paired with state-of-the-art technology. IMDb score: 8.5/10

Sons of Anarchy

"Sons of Anarchy" is another series that made it into my top 3. It's about a motorbike club, similar to the Hells Angels, and how its members go about their everyday lives between legal and illegal activities. Fierce turf wars and differences of opinion between the members mean that this series is never boring. IMDb score: 8.6/10

The Newsroom

More than ever, this series is about ethical and truthful reporting in the media. News anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and his team actively fight against sensationalist journalism by basing their news programme only on actual facts and well-researched articles. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled after just three seasons. I would have liked to see more. IMDb score: 8.6/10

Vikings

The series "Vikings" tells the story of the Viking hero Ragnar Loðbrok (Travis Fimmel). It gives an authentic insight into the customs and traditions of the Vikings of the early Middle Ages. I don't want to compare Vikings with Game of Thrones, but there is certainly a certain similarity in terms of style. IMDb score: 8.6/10

The Walking Dead

"The Walking Dead" starts where other zombie apocalypse films leave off. Former policeman Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) tries to fight the undead together with a few other survivors in the hope of finding his family again. Well-realised apocalyptic atmosphere with actors with strong characters. IMDb score: 8.6/10
