Bathed out: get your pool ready for winter!

Summer is coming to an end. What to do with the pool now? We explain what you need to bear in mind when cleaning, how to dispose of the water and how to winterise the pool without damaging it.
An above-ground pool must be dismantled over the winter. The operating instructions for each model describe exactly how to do this.
As soon as it gets cold, it's time to make your pool Winter Party ready so that it doesn't suffer frost damage. The pool liner could become brittle due to the cold. When the pool is put back in, the liner may not be able to withstand the strain of the water and may tear.
Before storage, the pool must be thoroughly cleaned and then the water removed from the pool.
Cleaning the pool
After the pool has been outside over the summer, it is possible that deposits have accumulated at the bottom. Use a pool net to remove the coarse dirt, a pool brush to clean the inside walls and a vacuum cleaner to clean the floor.
You can prevent further soiling with a tarpaulin.
Pump out the water
Ideally, you should pump the water into the sewerage system so that it can reach the sewage treatment plant. Alternatively, you can also empty the water, but only when the chemicals it contains are no longer effective (at least 2 weeks after the last addition). You can then slowly empty the pool water onto a lawn so that it can seep away.
The next step is to dismantle the pool equipment and allow the pool to dry.
Storing the pool
The outer skin should be folded at slightly warmer temperatures (not below 10 degrees Celsius), otherwise the liner will become too stiff and crease more easily. Kinks in the liner can lead to small holes, which then need to be discovered and repaired before the next pool season.
The pool must then be stored in a warm and dry place. The room in which the pool is stored should have an internal temperature of at least six degrees Celsius.
The filter system must also be placed in a frost-proof room for winter storage and stored separately.
