Anti-lock braking system for the trail: Bosch launches "ABS Pro" for E-MTBs
Bosch eBike Systems is launching "ABS Pro", an anti-lock braking system for e-mountainbikes. This is designed to increase riding stability off-road by allowing late and powerful braking without the front wheel slipping.
More concentration on the driving line, less focus on the brakes. With the new "ABS Pro" anti-lock braking system from Bosch eBike Systems, the company from Kusterdingen in Baden-Württemberg aims to maximise downhill braking performance. According to the press release, the control system optimised for sporty downhill passages should work in milliseconds and allow the brakes to react even more precisely to different surfaces.
Two ABS modes for different requirements
The advantages for e-mountainbike enthusiasts are, according to Bosch: The so-called "flow window" is extended, you can focus better on the trail, ride more precisely and have to concentrate less on braking. And in a race, this also means less stress for the body for enduro and downhill riders and therefore more performance and longer-lasting concentration.
In the development of the new "ABS Pro", Bosch says it incorporated experience and technology from E-MTB racing. The result is two ABS Pro modes: "ABS Trail Pro" for demanding mountain bikers and "ABS Race" for enduro racers.
Improving the braking behaviour in the performance range
In addition to the selected ABS mode, the Kiox 300, Kiox 500 and Purion 200 displays also show information such as braking distance and duration as well as the number of braking manoeuvres using ABS, according to the manufacturer. After the descent, you can analyse your own braking behaviour in the eBike Flow app and compare the proportion of braking operations with and without "ABS Pro".
The Bosch eBike "ABS Pro" is compatible with the MT7 disc brakes from Magura and DH-R EVO from TRP, cannot be retrofitted and is only available for e-bikes with a smart system. According to Bosch, the first models with ABS Pro are expected to be available from specialist dealers from the end of 2024.
In general, ABS is not a novelty: in 2022, the company presented the Bosch eBike ABS with ABS Allroad and ABS Trail modes. Bosch also introduced the ABS Touring and ABS Cargo modes for e-city, e-trekking and e-cargo bikes in 2022. Bosch eBike Systems introduced the world's first ABS for pedelecs back in 2018.
