Advice from the pros: creating an office corner at home

Modern technology and electronic networks allow us to work in an increasingly mobile way. So it's becoming more and more appropriate to set up a corner office at home, and many companies have realised this and introduced rules on teleworking. Avoid the most obvious pitfalls with these tips.

If you regularly work from home, it's worth setting up a space for your office. Here are a few tips from our experience in interior design.

1. The location

The layout of your office area is crucial if you want to feel comfortable there. Ideally, you should find a place bathed in natural light, for example in front of a window or even next to it to avoid glare. It is absolutely essential to avoid having a window at your back, as you would then be casting a shadow on your screen and the light reaching it would be reflected. It's also best to sit along a wall so you can work undisturbed.

2. The office

Make sure you have enough legroom under the desk. To determine the optimum height of the table, simply base yourself on the height of your elbow: it should reach the same height as the edge of the table, including the keyboard. Your desk chair should be adjustable for height and tilt. If your thighs rest completely on the seat and your feet rest completely on the floor, the height is perfect. You can also get a [footrest] (https://www.galaxus.ch/de/s14/producttype/hocker-920?take=75&offsetTop=3600) if you have difficulty ) touching the floor. Make sure you're at a safe distance from the screen - the ideal distance is between 70 and 90 centimetres. The top edge of the screen should be about ten centimetres below your eye level. Ideally, the screen should be tilted slightly forward to allow you to look vertically.

3. Comfort

The surface of the desk should be made of a material that is not cold to the touch, as your arms are often in contact with it. Glass, metal and stone are therefore rather unsuitable. Wood has a pleasant temperature and adds a warm atmosphere to the room. You can replace the classic table legs with drawer units or other storage spaces. This la allows you to choose the configuration and height of your desk.

4. Lighting

Even lighting in your workspace creates a more relaxed atmosphere. The light should be around 4000 Kelvin and therefore slightly cooler and brighter than the main lighting in your interior. The colours of the environment, on the other hand, can be reproduced naturally. You can therefore choose a desk lamp with a colour rendering index of at least 80. Desk lamps with articulated arms can be adjusted as required.

5. Storage

The desks with drawers and compartments have the advantage of allowing you to keep a "Clean Desk" by hiding all the chaos that sometimes invades our offices. Wall shelves offer personal furnishing space and can accommodate storage boxes. The display boards or wall-mounted grilles add a personal touch to your office area.
