The consumer magazine K-Tipp scrutinised 8 light hair removers. Only one model was rated "very good".

Place 1

Test winner with a score of 5.5 "very good"

First place went to the Lumea Prestige BRI950/00 from Philips. It is the most expensive model tested and impresses with a hair reduction of up to 95 per cent after five uses. It is also the only one of the eight models to have a rechargeable battery. The testers describe the device as "pleasant to use".

Place 2

Grade 5.4 "good"

Close on the heels of the test winner is the Lumea Advanced BRI921/00 from Philips. It removes hairs just as well as the first-placed model, but causes problems for the test subjects when triggering the light pulses during use.

Place 3

Score 5.1 "good"

The Silk-Expert IPL BD 5001 from Braun is a little weaker in terms of hair removal and handling.

Place 4

Score 4.6 "sufficient"

In fourth place was the Homelight Sensor G960E from Babyliss with two satisfactory results for hair removal and handling.

Place 5

Score 4.5 "sufficient"

The Jewel XL from Silk'n removes up to 90 per cent of hairs after five applications in the best cases, but works poorly or not at all for some testers in practice.

Place 6

Score 3.8 "unsatisfactory"

The IPL 3500 Compact Control HPL from Remington removes just 60 per cent of hair on average, but scores highly in terms of handling.

Place 7

Score 3.6 "unsatisfactory"

In penultimate place is the Silhouette IPL 840 hair removal system from Medisana. It removes hair in the same way as the Remington model. The test subjects criticise that the device is impractical to use under the armpits.

Place 8

Score below 2.5 "poor"

The Salon Pro System IPL 10000+ from Beurer only removed between 27 and 43 per cent of hair from the test subjects. It also fails the test for ease of use after just one use.

As far as pain is concerned, the test subjects felt at most a brief stinging sensation with all devices. Minor reddening did occur from time to time, but also disappeared again quickly. The report did not provide any further details on which devices were particularly suitable for which parts of the body.

As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
