Our travel blogger Lena Geeler loves going for a spa holiday. But not necessarily for the relaxation, but for the good stories that come out of it. She shares 5 situations with us that she encounters time and again.

Autumn is wellness time. But somehow I've never quite understood the concept of "wellness". Spreading out on a cushioned lounger where everyone has lain before and feeling better afterwards? Better not, but definitely well entertained. That's why I'm sharing five situations with you today that I come across time and again on wellness holidays.

The shameless ones you can't avoid

The same thing happens after every spa visit: I have images in my head that haunt me for days. For example, the image of this one gentleman who, despite an explicit "no nudity" rule, slowly and very ungallantly steps into the pool without his swimming trunks. Or the picture of the woman who shamelessly shaved her private parts in the public shower. Consideration looks different.

The towelling disaster

I always forget to pack my own slippers and have to make do with these free towelling slippers that are far too big. And almost like a ritual, the moment soon follows when these very slippers soak up the water from the puddle next to the toilet. I almost don't find it disgusting any more.

Stains that you'd rather overlook

It's almost a feeling of success when you manage to get hold of one of the coveted recliners. The battle for these things is comparable to the sales after Christmas. And as I lie there celebrating my success, I start counting the spots. I then tune out all the reports I've ever seen about cleanliness and hygiene and convince myself that the yellowish stains on the upholstery are just soda stains.

The pseudo-healthy buffet

For me, wellness always has something to do with healthy eating. Because you are what you eat. While the lemon water - oh, sorry detox water - and the fruit bar in the spa area still come pretty close to this, it stops at the breakfast buffet at the latest. In every spa hotel I've been to so far, really healthy food has been in short supply. But it could also be that I simply overlooked them. On purpose.

The treatment that nobody actually wants to afford

To round off your stay, you can always be persuaded to have a spa treatment. After all, it should have been worth it. But because the good things are already fully booked, you opt for a paraffin treatment. You pay more for this than for the whole stay put together. And I secretly wonder whether this paraffin wax is the same wax that the candles are made from.

Although I scrutinise every one of my spa visits and imagine that my feet itch for days on end (even though I soak my feet in disinfectant), I am drawn to a spa almost every month during the colder months. Whether I feel more relaxed and better afterwards, I'm not sure. But I do experience plenty of strange things.
