10 unforgettable film moments from Steven Spielberg

Steven Spielberg celebrates his 70th birthday on 18 December. We congratulate him and present 10 unforgettable film moments that we owe to the cult director.
1. E.T. and his glowing finger
Like almost all of Spielberg's films, E.T. is full of unforgettable scenes. One of the most famous, apart from the flying bicycle in front of the moon, is certainly his glowing red finger with which he heals a cut on Elliot's finger. Or when E.T. wants to phone home or when the flower withers, when E.T. is unwell, and so on and so forth.
2 Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark - What kind of idiot brings his sword to a gunfight?
In "Raiders of the Lost Ark", as "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is originally called, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) faces a sabre-wielding henchman in Cairo and is prepared for an epic battle. Instead, Indy casually pulls out his gun and simply strikes down his opponent. The reason for this is said to have been Harrison Ford's state of health on the day, which is why they decided on this now iconic fight scene.
3rd Jaws - Dadam Dadam
The music that is played whenever "the great white shark" approaches is unmistakable to this day and will probably forever be associated with approaching danger.

4 Jurassic Park - The Toilet Snack
"Jurassic Park" is a film teeming with iconic scenes. The cow being let into the T-Rex enclosure, the scene with the children in the crashed car while T-Rex roars around and so on. I particularly remember the moment when the T-Rex eats the lawyer in the toilet block. Hmm yummy.
5th Saving Private James Ryan - Omaha Beach
The assault on the Nazi-occupied beach in "Saving Private Ryan" is hard to beat in terms of drama. When the machine gun fire pours down on the crowds of Allied soldiers and mows them down one by one, it almost takes your breath away.

6th Hook - The Food Battle
The story of Peter Pan and Captain Hook has been told many times before. Spielberg managed to capture the charm of Neverland particularly well in "Hook". When Peter Pan (Robin Williams) sits at the dinner table with the Lost Boys and conjures up a feast with his imagination, only for it to immediately end in a wild food fight, you can only love the film. To put it in the words of the film: "Bangarang!"
7. Minority Report - Computer Systems
Despite Tom Cruise's presence, "Minority Report" is one of the most iconic sci-fi films. When Cruise, as John Anderton, typed in the air with his tech gloves and surfed through a futuristic and semi-transparent tracing system with wild gestures, it was pretty damn cool and still influences designers today.
8th War of the Worlds - Broooom
The three-legged alien war machines in "War of the Worlds" look impressive, but what has stayed with me is the sound they make. Broooooom. It really gives you goosebumps.

9th Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn - The scene transitions
The whole film is brilliantly made, but the transitions between scenes were given particular attention. For example, when the roaring sea turns into a small puddle in the next scene, you can't help but marvel.

10th Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade - Hitler's Autograph
Definitely one of the best moments: Indiana Jones hunting down his father's (Sean Connery) notebook and diary. The notes are extremely important to finding the Holy Grail. The Nazis want the book at all costs. Indiana Jones, whose real name is Henry Jones Jr., finally finds the notebook and finds himself on the run from the worst villain of all time: Adolf Hitler. However, the latter is on an autograph tour and simply scribbles an autograph in his father's diary for Indiana Jones.

What are your favourite moments from Spielberg's films?

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
