10 film kisses to fall in love with

Today is "Kiss Day". A good reason to take a look at the most popular smooches in film history. I looked through my film library and came up with the most romantic smooching scenes. Here are my ten absolute favourites.
I think a bit of romance and a bit of a romp is always good. I turn to my favourite genre: romances, dramas or simply films that contain a love story. A Hollywood film without love? No such thing for me. And because today is International Kissing Day, that's a good thing. I can indulge in my hobby and watch the cheesiest of films. Well, there are also superhero or even children's films in between. Because love comes in all shapes and forms, as Vada and Thomas J. show us with their first kiss in "My Girl". Your first kiss? Do you remember the feeling? Oh, what times those were.
Somehow, romance lurks in every film, even if it's sometimes a little hidden - my eyes always find the beauty. In honour of love, I took a look at the most beautiful kissing scenes in the film world. Here are my top 10 - imitation allowed!
Susi and Tramp (1955)
- Director: Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson and Hamilton Luske
- Actor Lovers: Barbara Luddy and Larry Roberts
One of Walt Disney's most beautiful children's films: the cocker spaniel lady Susi (Barbara Luddy), who comes from a good family, falls in love with the mongrel dog Tramp (Larry Roberts). As far as I remember, the most beautiful love story of my childhood.
On a romantic date in an Italian restaurant, Susi and Tramp get closer over a plate of pasta. Slurping their spaghetti with meatballs, they happen to catch the same noodle. And suddenly there's a heart-warming first kiss.
Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961)
- Directed by: Blake Edwards
- Actor Lovers: Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard
Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn) lives a dazzling life of glitz and glamour. And suddenly there is Paul Varjak (George Peppard), who falls madly in love with Holly. Not right from the start, because the two couldn't be more different. The absolute classic about where love sometimes falls and how opposites do attract.
The two lovebirds are sizzling right from the start, but the viewer still has to wait until the happy ending, which only comes at the very end. What could be more romantic than a final, long-awaited kiss? A kiss in the pouring rain!
Harry and Sally (1989)
- Directed by: Rob Reiner
- Actor Lovers: Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal
Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Meg Ryan) meet by chance on the journey to New York, and as luck would have it, the two meet again and again over the years - on the plane or in the bookshop. To cut a long story short, after many arguments, countless tears and the endless search for true love, Harry and Sally finally realise that their soulmate has always been right in front of them.
Pure suspense! Although it seems clear from the start where the film is heading, it's always nice to watch Harry and Sally on the edge of their seats. Highlight: Harry's confession of love that we've been waiting so long for!
My Girl - My first love (1991)

- Directed by: Howard Zieff
- Acting Lovers: Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin
What could be better than first love? Although it doesn't always turn out to be the one true love, it is still unique and lasts a lifetime. This is also the case for Vada (Anna Chlumsky) and Thomas J. (Macaulay Culkin). The two are best friends and spend every second together - until fate decides to put an end to their friendship.
What is probably the saddest memory of my childhood still brings tears to my eyes today. "My Girl" manages to give me goosebumps every time. How nasty life can be sometimes. And yet there is this one brief moment that Vada and Thomas J. will share forever: the first, almost unwanted kiss - how sweet!
William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (1996)
- Director: Baz Luhrmann
- Actor Lovers: Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio
Romeo (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Juliet (Claire Danes) fall head over heels in love at a fancy dress ball, without realising that the two come from feuding families. The war between the Montagues and the Capulets has been going on for a long time. Nevertheless, the two lovers believe they can change everything with their young love and defy all the prohibitions of their families.
William Shakespeare's legend of a love that should never have existed. The film adaptation of the forbidden romance shines with Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo and the ingenious original text from the book. Old English ahoy!
Titanic (1997)

Titanic Hollywood Collection
Blu-ray, 1997, English, German, French
- Directed by: James Cameron
- Actor Lovers: Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio
The tragic story about two people who meet and fall in love on the sinking ship "Titanic". We've all heard at least once about Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), the ordinary labourer, and Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), who find true love, if only there wasn't a big iceberg lurking around...
I get weak at the knees every time sweet Leo whisks young Kate away to the railing. How romantic can it get? He holds her tightly in his arms and she instantly falls in love with him - we can't blame Kate Winslet. And yes, there's snogging too.
Spider-Man (2002)
- Directed by: Sam Raimi
- Actor Lovers: Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire
Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is an ordinary teenager who still goes to school and seems a little shy with his glasses - until he is bitten by a genetically manipulated spider and becomes a superhero. It goes without saying that women start queuing up for him from then on, including Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst).
Because Peter Parker resembles a spider and generally likes to crawl around on house walls or abseil down from above, his beloved meets the upside-down Spider-Man one night. Because rainy weather somehow makes everything even more dramatic, Mary Jane pulls Spider-Man's mask halfway down with wet hair - so that you can't recognise who it is - and kisses the spider-like superhero.
Like a single day (2004)
- Directed by: Nick Cassavetes
- Actor Lovers: Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling
My all-time favourite and Nicholas Sparks' favourite work moves me to tears every time I go to the cinema. Pensioner Noah Calhoun (James Garner) reads a diary every day to a woman suffering from Alzheimer's, Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands). It is a touching love story that also deeply affects the elderly lady - until she realises in brief moments of clarity that it is her and Noah's own story.
Young Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams) have many hurdles to overcome. She comes from a rich family, while he doesn't have much to offer - but their love is young, fiery and real. When they finally reconcile, they have a passionate reunion in the rain, during which they realise that they can't do without each other.
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
- Directed by: Ang Lee
- Actor Lovers: Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal
Cowboys Ennis (Heath Ledger) and Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) meet in the inhospitable mountain region of Wyoming and begin a secret love affair. At a time in America between the 1960s and 1980s when homosexual relationships were still frowned upon by society, the two have to hide their feelings. After a long separation, when the two men finally meet again, they give free rein to their emotions and make out as passionately as if they had to make up for all the lost time in minutes.
A fascinating film adaptation of Annie Proulx's short story of the same name, with beautiful visuals and an ingenious screenplay.
Crazy, Stupid, Love. (2011)
- Directed by: Glenn Ficarra and John Requa
- Actor Lovers: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling
Love can sometimes be pretty crazy and tricky. Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling) and Hannah Weaver (Emma Stone) find this out when they meet under somewhat unusual circumstances. Their first kiss and the night that follows are just as crazy. Rain and wet hair play a big, sexy role here too.
A Hollywood film with lots of laughs, love stories and a hot cast. A good workout for the laugh muscles, and by far one of Ryan Gosling's funniest roles. So here's a little bonus scene for you.
Because there are many, many more romantic scenes, I'd like to know which Hollywood kissing scene makes you weak in the knees. Tell us in the comments which Hollywood star you would like to kiss, in which film and in which scene you would like to be part of the love story, or how you would have done a film kiss differently. We are curious. And so that you're prepared for smooches of all kinds:

I spend my everyday life with writing, eating, sports and sleeping - and in between a lot of humour. I love the summer, ice cream, chocolate, sunsets and walking barefoot. Traveling, exploring new worlds and experiencing adventures. And nothing beats a good pizza with good friends to a good movie.
