Old VMs cannot be taken along with new processor M 1
Anyone who has old VMs and thinks they can continue to use them on a new MacBook with an M1 processor (what is TimeMaschine for?) is unfortunately mistaken. You might get an ISO from Microsoft with the ARM structure that should work for the M1 processor, but that is of little use. Windows 7, Windows 10, old programs that are only available on the VM and can no longer be purchased, etc. You can throw them away. Or you can buy a second MacBook and hope that Parallels will do a better job in the future. I'm currently sitting on a MacBook Pro with M1 processor and a 2 Terra disk. Intended to use Windows 7, Windows 10 and UBUNTU. Unfortunately I can't use the device for Parallels because the old VMs can't be adapted. The device is therefore no longer usable for me, even though it is new. The saddest thing is that Parallels has not found it necessary to make its existing customers aware of this well known problem. I don't know if it is the development of Parallels or the management that has failed. I just find it sad how little foresight has gone into such an expensive product. How much existing customers have been harmed by non-information and misleading advice. I strongly advise you not to use Parallels Desktop, the VMs are no security as Parallels cannot guarantee revendability to future systems.
