The chrome-free cowhide leather is smooth and lightweight. It comes from farms in southern Brazil and undergoes an innovative tanning process that does not use chromium, heavy metals, or hazardous acids. By simplifying the tanning process, the use of chemicals and energy is reduced, water consumption is lowered by about 40%, and salt usage is decreased by 80%. After tanning, the water is reusable. The suede is made from the underside of cowhide that has been brushed to make it softer and more flexible. It is tanned in Brazil in compliance with REACH standards, with special attention given to water consumption during the tanning process. The suede is also coated with water-repellent oils free of PFCs to protect the sneakers from light rain.
