The chrome-free cowhide leather is smooth and lightweight. It comes from farms in southern Brazil and undergoes an innovative tanning process that does not use chrome, heavy metals, or hazardous acids. By simplifying the tanning process, the use of chemicals and energy is reduced, water consumption is decreased by about 40%, and salt usage is lowered by 80%. After tanning, the water can be reused. The suede is made from the underside of the cowhide, which has been brushed to make it softer and more flexible. It is tanned in Brazil in compliance with REACH regulations, with special attention given to water consumption during the tanning process. The suede is also coated with water-repellent oils free of PFCs to protect the sneakers from light rain.
