It comes from farms in southern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul) and undergoes an innovative tanning process that does not use chromium, heavy metals, or hazardous acids. By simplifying the tanning process, the use of chemicals and energy is reduced, water consumption is lowered by about 40%, and salt usage is decreased by 80%. After tanning, the water is reusable.
