The mapping jacket with woollen fleece in the exposed areas and alpha fleece in the sweaty areas (back, armpits) has a protective hood and a safety opening. However, it is heavy and less warm, and the sleeves are tight.
When high alpine climbing, there are inevitably small breaks. In extreme cold, it can be challenging to maintain the right thermal balance. The Ortles RDS Hybrid Down Jacket is a technical insulation jacket with a body mapping design, developed for varying activities in cold conditions.
Thanks to the body mapping design, it keeps you comfortably warm while preventing heat buildup. It is insulated with 90/10, 750 cuin RDS-certified goose down at the key areas – the front torso, back, and arms. In areas where less insulation is needed and the material is under greater stress – such as the shoulders – we use robust and breathable 100-gram Tirol Wool Responsive. Under the armpits and on the back, where sweating occurs the most, we use Polartec Alpha Direct Wool to allow body heat and moisture to escape quickly. The insulation is packed into a windproof and water-repellent ripstop outer material with a PFC-free DWR (durable water repellent) coating to keep out rain and snow while trapping warmth.
This model is a Salewa Committed product that meets our strict, third-party-verified standards for sustainability and social responsibility. Additionally, the outer material is made from bluesign®-certified nylon, and the down is certified according to the Responsible Down Standard.
Our most technical insulation jacket for high alpine climbing.
