The Contender is an archive silhouette that was originally released in 1995, featuring design ideas from Mizuno's founder, Rhiachi Mizuno. This was a lightweight model characterized by stability and support, aimed at entry-level runners looking for a well-cushioned shoe for running on or off the road. The Contender combines mesh with suede reinforcements for a durable construction and maximum comfort. The midsole is made of a one-dimensional, compression-molded EVA foam with Mizuno's Transpower technology in the heel area, a responsive foam insert that also provides shock absorption and additional cushioning. The classic 90s look and the balanced interplay between matte mesh and suede create a unique blend of casual wear and the sporty origins of this silhouette.
