The socks are made of 93% cotton (organic), 5% polyamide, and 2% elastane. Fil d’Ecosse is a cotton fiber that has been refined through the mercerization process. Mercerization reduces the length of the fibers, alters their cross-section, and causes the fibers to swell. These structural changes result in greater strength, improved dyeability, and a wash-resistant, silky sheen. This process was developed by John Mercer in the mid-19th century and leads to higher quality in textiles.
