BIC lighters are characterized by their oval shape, particularly robust quality, and unique safety guard that prevents children from playing with them. In terms of durability, the disposable lighter from the French traditional company makes a statement, averaging a remarkable 3,000 ignitions. Even with regular use, you can easily get several weeks out of it.

The functionality depends on which model you choose. There are three different versions: the flint lighter, the electronic lighter, and the multifunction lighter.

The Flint Lighter

This category includes the classic BIC Maxi lighter, the BIC Slim, and the BIC Mini. As the name suggests, the Slim is narrower than the original, and the Mini is shorter. However, the functionality is the same for each model. Inside the plastic casing, there is a container for the butane gas and a nozzle. When you press the red button on the lighter, the reducing valve at the top of the container opens. This causes the gas to exit under high pressure and mix with air, creating a flammable gas-air mixture.

This mixture then needs to be ignited. This is done using the flint and the flint wheel. A spring presses the flint against the flint wheel. When you pull the wheel down, it scrapes small pieces off the flint, creating sparks that ignite the gas-air mixture.
