The Ligne 2 lighter collection produces a characteristic and instantly recognizable crystal-clear sound. When the lid is opened, a ping is heard. The ping sound occurred purely by chance in 1976 with the Ligne 2 lighter collection. However, when it was discovered that many Ligne 2 lighters were sent in for maintenance after some owners attempted to perfect the sound with minor modifications, the manufacturing team ultimately decided not to change the design and construction of the Ligne 2 lighters.
