Stevia rebaudiana is a herb from the chrysanthemum family that grows in the wild as a small shrub in parts of Paraguay and Brazil. The glycosides in its leaves, including up to 100% stevioside, are the reason for its incredible sweetness and make it unique among the nearly 300 species of stevia plants. Stevia leaves and stevioside only have the sweet flavour in common with sugar. The leaves, like the isolated ingredient, have no calories and do not affect blood sugar levels. Stevia tablets are suitable for sweetening drinks. 1 tablet is equivalent to 1 sugar cube.
