A true original. The passion flower was already valued by the Aztecs to relieve pain and as a sleep aid. However, this plant got its name from the Jesuits, who believed they could see Christ's crown of thorns and the nails with which he was nailed to the cross in its flower. This is how it got its name, derived from passio (suffering) and incarnata (incarnate). In contrast to most other medicinal plants, passion flowers were not used in Europe until the end of the 19th century. Passionflower promotes restful sleep. It can be combined with hawthorn and lemon balm.
