The surgical disposable masks of type IIR EN 14683: 2019 consist of three layers of nonwoven fabric, each serving a specific function. The outer layer made of spunbond technology is water-repellent and provides strength to the mask. The middle layer made of meltblown technology acts as a particle filter. The inner layer made of spunbond technology protects the face by avoiding direct contact with the filter layer. The fabric used (nonwoven) is treated with an environmentally friendly agent that is virus- and water-repellent. It carries the international environmental certification GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). A surgical mask should generally be replaced after 6-8 hours.
