1 No 2 Data transmission starts when you stand up. The device has a built-in microphone. However, this can be deactivated.

I don't know how exactly the technology works. But sound waves are recorded. So it could also be a simple pneumatic knife. It works by means of air cushion technology.

have been using this for a long time with withings aura, does exactly that and...the guuuut ...
I can probably only be of limited help with my setup at home, but maybe the info is better than nothing: The Withings Sleep Analyser is "fixed" to one person, i.e. you can NOT assign sleep to a registered person like with the scale, thermometer or blood pressure monitor. This works fine with two separate 100cm mattresses in a 200cm bed. But I would be sceptical about a 180cm mattress. Combining" the sleep records from two units into one person does not work because of the limitation in the software described above.
i have thick innerspring mattresses and a topper on top of them of about 30 cm together. it works reliably under the topper as well as under the whole mattress. it is also well described in the instructions.
