Medihoney dressings protect the wound by forming a barrier against pathogens in the wound, including antibiotic-resistant strains, thereby reducing the risk of infections. The high osmotic potential of the dressing initially promotes exudate formation, flushing out bacteria, endotoxins, debris, and necrotic tissue from the wound, leading to rapid odor elimination. This material is then encapsulated in an antibacterial matrix that allows for easy dressing changes.

The result is a clean wound, which reduces inflammation, edema, and exudation. By creating the optimal healing environment, granulation and epithelialization are promoted.
