Application:
With the temperature method, the basal temperature must be measured each morning before getting out of bed using a basal thermometer. This measured value is then recorded in a chart. Over the course of the cycle, this creates a temperature curve from which the fertile and infertile days can be read. In the first half of the cycle, the temperature is low. Just before ovulation, it may drop slightly. In the second half of the cycle, under the influence of progesterone, there is a temperature increase of at least 0.2 °C to 0.5 °C. This temperature rise remains until just before the next menstrual period, when it then drops again by 0.2 °C to 0.5 °C.
