Escentric Molecules Escentric 05

Cashmeran is dry, radiant, warm, and woody with an unexpected hint of pine resin, says Geza Schoen. This inspired me to create a different kind of summer fragrance. I wanted to evoke the feeling of being by the sea, but not with the usual marine notes that I find too artificial. Instead, I aimed to recreate the experience of being on an island in the Mediterranean.

The top note of Escentric 05 is very simple: bergamot for lightness and orange, an ingredient with an emotional tone, bright and cheerful. It reflects the orange groves that cover this island.

Laurel and rosemary are typical Mediterranean plants with a spicy freshness, juniper adds a herbal tonal quality, and cypress is a very dry, sharp wood.

The base note features two classic Mediterranean ingredients, cistus labdanum and mastic. Mastic is a resin produced by a small tree that grows particularly near the sea. It has the clear, sharp scent of freshly cut branches. Cistus is a small plant that grows all over the Mediterranean. It has a sweet, leathery, balsamic quality that I love. And of course, there is about 15% Cashmeran included – which gives the fragrance its pine-woody warmth.

I also introduced a subtle fig, capturing both the bitterness of the leaves and the ripeness of the fruit. Figs had to be included, as there is a fig tree next to our house on the island. Figs feel authentic to this place; they remind me of the joy of summer by the sea.
