Too much moisture can hinder wound healing. Superabsorbent wound dressings are used to absorb a large portion of this moisture – along with the harmful bacteria. This creates an optimal environment for wound healing and protects the intact skin. To create an optimal environment for wound healing, a dressing is required that can protect against damage from excessive exudate and help preserve the intact skin. Exudate ensures a moist wound environment, supports the migration of tissue-repairing cells, supplies the wound with essential nutrients for cell metabolism, and aids in the shedding of dead or damaged tissue. However, excessive wound exudate can cause a variety of problems in the wound environment and the surrounding skin. Exudate is a decomposing biological fluid.
