Mitsuha lives with her little sister Yotsuha at their grandmother's house in a rural town in Japan. Secretly, she laments her secluded life in the countryside and longs for an exciting life in the big city. Taki would be happy to grow up in such a peaceful setting, as he lives in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, spends a lot of time with his friends, and works part-time at an Italian restaurant while attending school. One day, Mitsuha seems to have a dream in which she finds herself as a boy in Tokyo. Meanwhile, Taki has a similar experience: he finds himself as a girl in a mountain town he has never been to before. But how did this fateful entanglement come about, and what secret lies behind the dreams of these two teenagers?.
