William Tell

The cruel Habsburg bailiff Hermann Gessler rules Switzerland with an iron fist. As more and more subjects call for resistance, the mountain farmer Wilhelm Tell initially stays out of it. However, when he refuses to bow to the bailiff's hat, Gessler demands that he shoot an apple off the head of his own son. Finally, Tell realizes the threat the bailiff poses to his family and the entire people and decides to free the land from the tyrant.
