Fifteen-year-old Nisha lives a double life. At home, she strictly adheres to the traditions and values of her Pakistani family. Outside with her friends, she behaves like a typical Norwegian teenager. However, when her father catches her with her boyfriend, her two worlds collide violently. Nisha is kidnapped by her parents and taken to Pakistan. She feels scared and alone in a foreign land. Nevertheless, she gradually discovers her family's country and culture. "What Will People Say" is an emotional film about love and courage, and about finding one's own path. The director has created a particularly authentic film about the conflict between tradition and modernity: she partially lived Nisha's story herself when she was kidnapped by her parents to Pakistan at the age of 14.
