Emil Tischbein is allowed to spend his vacation at his grandmother's in Berlin. On the train ride, he meets the nice Mr. Grundeis, who offers him a candy. However, the treacherous treat makes Emil fall asleep, and by the time he arrives in Berlin, all his money has been stolen. Fortunately, Emil meets Gustav with the horn and his friends. Together, they track down the thief and are able to expose him.
