Trauffer Barry with barrel

This creation from the traditional wooden toy producer Trauffer represents the famous avalanche dog Barry. This St. Bernard, who lived at the hospice on the Great St. Bernard Pass and saved the lives of over 40 avalanche victims, is said to have carried a barrel of brandy with a Swiss cross around his neck to help revive the frozen victims. Alfred Trauffer founded his small carving workshop in 1938, where he produced easily recognizable and concrete animal figures. Today, the family business is run by the third generation and has long been one of the largest toy producers in Switzerland. Trauffer's wooden figures are characterized by their uniqueness, craftsmanship tradition, and the use of Swiss wood. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind, as the individual figures are hand-cut, sanded, and painted. Trauffer creations still make children's hearts soar today; they are known worldwide and are a popular souvenir. The production uses 100% FSC-certified and exclusively Swiss wood, processed in an environmentally friendly manner. The water-based and non-toxic paints are safe for children of all ages. The toys are tested and declared according to European safety standards, EN 71.
