Anyone who knew Karl Kraus in the literary scene of the early 20th century either revered or despised him – he certainly did not evoke indifference. At just 25 years old, Kraus founded the magazine "Die Fackel" in Vienna, marking the beginning of his rapid career as a journalist and critic, playwright, and satirist in 1899. Until his death in 1936, he was regarded as the sharpest observer of cultural and political events. His words targeted the degradation of language, against empty rhetoric and warmongers, against corruption and hypocrisy. Peter Matić reads from the writings of this combative linguistic genius.
